March 31, 2017
Retired basketball player Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson and 21st Century Fox Chief Executive James Murdoch are amongst the prominent figures to have joined the Board of Directors for the LA 2024 Olympic bid.
Over 100 people currently sit on the Board, which is designed to garner new expertise and talent to help the city’s chances of beating Paris to secure the 2024 Games.
Johnson owns Major League Baseball’s (MLB) LA Dodgers, Major League Soccer’s (MLS) LAFC and Women’s National Basketball Association’s (NBA) LA Sparks, and serves as President of basketball operations at NBA’s LA Lakers.
He is just one of a number of sports leaders lending their profile and sporting knowledge to the Board.
Meanwhile, Murdoch is Chief Executive of one of the world’s most successful entertainment companies.
“The world is changing, and so are the needs of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements,” said Los Angeles 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman.
“This calls for new thinking, and that is precisely what the diverse group of 117 leaders and innovators on LA 2024’s Board of Directors brings to LA’s bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
