MTG Secure Champions League Rights in Scandinavian Territories

June 30, 2011

Modern Times Group (MTG) has agreed an extension to its agreement as the official broadcast rights holder for the UEFA Champions League across the Scandinavian territories of Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

The Swedish media company, which operates the Viasat-branded platforms and channels in Scandinavia, has agreed a new deal that encompasses the Champions League campaigns from 2012 through to 2015.

UEFA revealed MTG committed to a “significant amount” of live match programming in the bidding process. In line with UEFA’s platform-neutral approach, the rights will also be exploited on the internet via MTG’s websites and mobile platforms in the various territories.

A statement from UEFA said: “In each country the comprehensive match night coverage as well as the high level of Viasat’s production capability, on-site presence and expert insight from Viasat’s panel of football presenters add significant value to the competition coverage for football fans in the region.

“We are very pleased that the Viasat channels will continue to be the home of the UEFA Champions League throughout the 2012-15 rights cycle.”
