McLaren F1 Dismiss Honda Buy-In Reports

May 30, 2014

Formula 1 team McLaren have denied rumors that Honda is considering buying a stake in the team.

Honda will supply engines to the Woking-based squad next season, and there have been some reports in recent days that the Japanese manufacturer might acquire the shares held by Bahrain’s Mumtalakat Holding Company. However, McLaren has said though that the reports are not accurate.

“Contrary to recent media reports, Honda has informed us that it has no intention to buy into McLaren,” a spokesperson for McLaren said.

“All of Honda’s focus is on the development of its new F1 power unit,” the spokesperson added.

McLaren is using Mercedes engines this season, but that relationship, which began back in 1995, will end at the close of 2014.
