Maxis Becomes Malaysian Badminton Sponsor

May 16, 2012

Malaysian mobile phone company Maxis has agreed a two-year multi-million dollar deal to sponsor the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

This is the BAM’s second major sponsorship of 2012 having already agreed a deal with Maybank, a financial services company.

BAM President, Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, said he hopes Malaysian players will challenged help ensure badminton remains a national major sport.

Nadzmi believes that the players have more responsibility and accountability because of the sponsorship money flowing into the sport.

The Thomas Cup tournament, one of the sport’s major competitions, is later this month.
“Our sport has always been scrutinised and criticised, but the sponsors keep on coming and supporting us. This is a testament of BAM’s success story,” said Nadzmi.

Nadzmi said much of the recent sponsorship money will be used for long-term development programmes so that the sport has a “bright future”.
