Manchester United to Reportedly Break Kit Deal Record with £70m a Year Agreement
January 29, 2014
Manchester United could break the world-record for a soccer kit deal after reports emerged rival companies would pitch for a £70m a year agreement.
Reports in the English press said that the deal could be complete within six months and that adidas, doctor Warrior and Puma had all been offered to pitch their ideas to replace Nike as United’s kit supplier.
The news came the day after Arsenal announced an English record breaking deal, with the £30m a year partnership with Puma.
A Red Devils spokesperson said: “We currently are in discussions with multiple parties regarding our Global Retail, Apparel & Product Licensing business starting in the 2015/16 Season. This process is a routine practice used for our global and regional sponsorship deals and helps us maximise the value/structure of the Club’s partnerships.”
According to The Telegraph, United’s head of commercial Richard Arnold has already met with members of Warrior and adidas, with Puma representatives set to follow.
United’s current deal with Nike is worth £23.5m a year and started in 2002-03. The deal expires at the end of the 2014-15 season and no agreement for an extension has been reached.
