Manchester United Reach 10m Twitter Followers
January 30, 2017
FA Cup holders Manchester United have become the first British sports team, and only the third worldwide, to reach the milestone of 10m followers on social network Twitter.
Only La Liga sides Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two most recent winners of both the UEFA Champions League and World Club Cup, have reached the milestone previously – although both of them have sent over 20,000 more tweets than the English side.
Twitter was founded in March 2006 and currently has around 320m monthly users. It is currently ranked by web information company Alexa as the world’s 13th most-visited site.
The basketball team Los Angeles Lakers are the only non-football team to boast over 5m Twitter followers, and currently sit 8th overall in the list of most-followed sports teams.
