Manchester City Bag Nike Kit Deal

Manchester City have signed a new kit deal with sportswear giant Nike which is worth a reported £72m ($109m) over six years.

The news came at the launch of the club’s new kit in New York, where the team are on a post-season tour.

Reports suggest that Nike will pay City £12m () a year for the next six years which means the team have doubled their kit income, which could push them further towards meeting Financial Fair Play regulations.

Tom Glick, City’s Chief Commercial and Operating Officer, said: “Nike’s extensive distribution networks will ensure the club’s presence in markets stretching from Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas.’

“We are also pleased to unveil our new look during our matches in New York and St. Louis this week. This is our third visit to the USA in the last three years, and we enjoy a fantastic following here.”

Manchester City have recently launched the 20th Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise, the New York City Football Club (NYCFC), which is a sign of the progression of soccer in the USA.

“It’s an exciting time for soccer in the States, and we are big believers in its future,” added Glick.

“Passion for the game from fans and participants is strong and growing, and we look forward to playing a part in its on-going development.”

City face Chelsea in St Louis and New York in a brand building post-season tour.
