Madrid Marathon to be a Celebration of the Madrid 2020 Olympic Bid

The Madrid Marathon will showcase the level of support in the Spanish capital for their bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games.
The race will be stage don Sunday and will also demonstrate the city’s ability to successfully stage major sporting events.
Record entries have been logged for the 42-kilometre race, clinic with 26, see 000 athletes taking part, healing 6,000 more than the 2012 race.
Race organisers earlier confirmed that the bombings at the Boston Marathon were followed by a large rise in participants who wanted to show their support for those affected by the events earlier in the month.
Madrid 2020 will have a high-profile presence along the race route, including at the start, when a Spanish paratrooper will land in the Plaza de Colón and hold the Bid flag aloft.
Banners and placards of the bid will also be present throughout the race.
According to municipal reports, the marathon will generate €12m for the city in revenue through increased use of transport, hotels, restaurants and shops.
