Longines Agree Sponsorship Deal with German Horse-Racing

June 28, 2011

Longines have become the second Swiss watchmaker this week to announce a new title sponsorship deal in sport. Longines, following IWC Schaffhausen’s sponsorship of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, announced yesterday, have become the new title sponsor of the Grosser Preis von Baden, Germany’s most prestigious horse-racing flat race.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Longines will also act as the official timekeeper at the Iffezheim/Baden-Baden racecourse.
Walter von Känel, president of Longines, said: “Longines supports equestrian sports because they combine tradition, elegance and high-level performance.
“They demand concentration, precision and experience, precisely those values that underpin our brand’s philosophy.”
As well as being the highlight of the Grand Week, which takes place between August 27 and September 4, the Longines Grosser Preis von Baden is the centrepiece of the racing season at the Iffezheim track. With prize money totalling  around US$350,000, it is only one of seven Group 1 races to be held in Germany.
Dr Andreas Jacobs, president of Baden Racing, added: “This represents a major milestone in Baden Racing’s history. We are proud to have a partner whose name is associated with other celebrated racecourses like Ascot, Chantilly and Melbourne. Our new partnership is further proof that Iffezheim racecourse is up there with the best. The Longines brand is the perfect sponsor for our major events.”
