London ‘Unlikely’ to Bid to Host 2022 Commonwealth Games

October 24, 2013

London could abandon plans to bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, according to a BBC report.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson had previously supported the proposal, though he is now understood to view the costs involved as prohibitive.

A source told BBC London: “I think it is very unlikely that London will bid now. The cost of securing many venues is very high.”

According to the BBC, both the Commonwealth Games England and the London mayor’s office
declined to comment.
