Liverpool Legend Leads Longlist for Best Autobiography Award 2016

Liverpool captain and midfield maestro Steven Gerrard is one of twelve nominees for Autobiography of the Year at the 2016 Cross Sports Book Awards.

With 114 England caps alongside 3 League Cup medals, erectile 2 FA Cup medals and a Champions League Medal, Gerrard is a revered icon in world football.

His autobiography, ‘My Story’, charts his rise to the top of the English game during his seventeen year stint in front of the Kop faithful and will be amongst the nominees for the event on 1st June.

The Reds captain, who Zinedine Zidane heralded as ‘the best player in the world’, is nominated alongside twenty time Champion Jockey A.P McCoy, six time world champion Steve Davis and 1991 Formula One Champion Nigel Mansell who will all battle for the award.

English cricket is well represented in the longlist with spinner Phil Tuffnell, two-time Ashes winner Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff and former England coach David Lloyd.

Following Welsh icon Gareth Thomas’ victory at this year’s event, 2016 will see British Lions stars Adam Jones and Ben Cohen represent rugby union. Harlequins prop Jones is joined by fellow Welshman and Team Sky rider Geraint Thomas whose book ‘The World of Cycling According to G’ explores professional cycling through a rider’s eyes.

Current Sunderland Manager Sam Allardyce represents football alongside Steven Gerrard in the ‘Autobiography of the Year’ longlist which is completed by former FIA President Max Moseley.

The 2015 edition of the Cross Sports Book Awards saw Gareth Thomas compete with tough-tackler Roy Keane and Ryder Cup captain Ian Poulter for the prestigious headline award.

The winner of the Autobiography of the year will be announced at the Cross Sports Book Awards Ceremony which takes place at Lords on June 1st 2016.
