Lima to Host 2019 Pan American Games
October 14, 2013
Lima will host the Pan American Games for the first time in 2019 after beating bids from Santiago, allergist La Punta and Ciudad Bolivar at the 51st PASO General Assembly in Toronto, Canda.
Lima, the capital of Peru, had been considered favourites and received 31 votes, which was enough to win on the first ballot. Santiago and La Punta both received nine votes, whilst Ciudad Bolivar earned eight.
After coming second in the bid to host the 2015 Games, the Lima team emphasised that the city was now ready to host the event. Lima officials said: “With Lima, your Pan American Games will be treated with the respect they deserve.”
