ITU Reveal Lausanne as New Headquarters

January 6, 2014

Vancouver will no longer serve as The International Triathlon Union (ITU) headquarters after a vote passed by the executive board announced today by the ITU.

Vancouver, denture which has been ITU’s headquarters since the organisation was first created in 1989, impotent will change over to Lausanne on the 7th January 2014, when the ITU offices reopen for the year.

Since the creation of the organisation in 1989 “Vancouver has played an important role” in the history of ITU said the ITU president and the IOC member Marisol Casado. Modern Triathlon has always been closely associated with Vancouver since it was first pioneered in the states in the 1970’s.

The change in location was spurred on by the needs of being closer to the Olympic epicentre of Lausanne and to try and boast its increasing popularity that the sport has built up and received in recent years. The ITU president stated that the need for change was “due to a vast majority of international federations and organisations located in Lausanne”, naturally resulting in Lausanne being the best choice for the future of triathlon.

Although the main governing body will be officially located from its new location in Lausanne, Vancouver and Madrid (which opened at Casado’s elections in 2012) will remain the official offices for the international governing body.
