Istanbul 2020 Bring Grand Bazaar to New York’s Grand Central Station
May 15, 2013
Istanbul 2020 has brought the city’s world-famous Grand Bazaar to the Grand Central station in New York with the aim to showcase Turkey’s hospitality and cuisine.
The move comes as part of the 32nd New York Turkish Day festivities, health the biggest celebration of Turkish culture outside of the country.
Organised by the Federation of Turkish American Associations (FTAA), Grand Central had traditional Turkish and Grand Bazaar decorations on show along with Istanbul 2020 branding.
Turkish food and handcrafted souvenirs were experienced by visitors to give them a feel of what encountering the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul would be like.
Chairman of Istanbul 2020, Hasan Arat, said: “This is a great opportunity to take Turkish culture to a foreign city and showcase Turkey’s famous warmth and hospitality internationally.
“Turkish culture already inspires over 30 million visitors to our country each year, with over 11 million visiting Istanbul alone.
“If we are awarded the honour of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, the Olympic family will experience the region and its people, our legendary hospitality and our passion for sport, for the very first time.”
Istanbul 2020 is one of the main sponsors of the 32nd New York Turkish Day Parade and will have a float that will parade down Madison Street on May 18.
