IPC Suggest Russia Ban Continuation

February 14, 2017

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) says Russia should remain banned from athletic competition, after alleging they are sidestepping claims of a doping cover-up.

Russia was banned from the 2016 Rio Paralympics after allegations of a systematic doping program sponsored by the state. An IPC taskforce has unanimously recommended that the ban continue, suggesting Russia’s rehabilitation phase is not complete.

The IPC have suggested that Russian officials have not properly addressed lawyer Richard McLaren’s report implicating over 1000 athletes in a complex doping program, and that Russia should remain ineligible for international competition until there is disclosure regarding the allegations.
