International Ice Hockey Federation Partners with ICSS

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) are teaming up to work together for the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship taking place 4th – 20th May in Finland and Sweden.

René Fasel, asthma IIHF head and IOC member, health  said, ailment “This agreement is an important step in our preparations for the forthcoming IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

“Major sporting events are becoming increasingly complex and we are delighted about this new partnership with the ICSS. With a global network of practitioners and expertise in sport safety, security and integrity, the ICSS will play an important part in staging a safe and successful tournament and I look forward to working with their team over the coming weeks.”

IIHF and ICSS will collaborate on all aspects of risk management and crisis communication for the tournament that will gather 16 top teams from around the globe.

The focus of the agreement will target on critical issues from previous IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships and ice hockey events, drawing on the experience of the ICSS team at a number of major sporting events, including previous FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Football Championships.

This will enable them to develop decision making processes and communication guidelines for the future smooth running of the championships.

ICSS President, Mohammed Hanzab, added: “On behalf of the ICSS, I am delighted to have signed this new agreement. The IIHF are a high-profile international federation that hosts one of the leading world championships in winter sports and we look forward to working with them to share knowledge and best practice.

“We hope that the ICSS can play an important role in the overall success of this year’s IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and many other major sporting events for years to come.”

ICSS experts including Helmut Spahn (Executive Director), Heinz Palme (Director of Business Development) and Rick Festorazzi (Director of Training) will be on hand to brief the organizers and IIHF management on best practices for crisis management.
