International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), commercial partner, Dentsu has sealed rights to cover 10 Asianterritories and a selection of Pacific Islands for the IAAF World Championships later this month.

The World Championships are on the horizon with less than a fortnight to go before the South Korean city of Daegu host the spectacle starting August 27.

The IAAF stated that free-to-air agreements had been reached in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Macao, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Timor, Fiji and Papua New Guinea as well as an array of smaller islands.

Lamine Diack, IAAF President, said: “The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union agreement is especially welcome news as it closes TV sales for Daegu 2011 for territories outside Africa and Europe.”

IEC in Sports, the IAAF’s media agency for Europe and Africa, has also concluded a number of deals in Europe. In the Netherlands, public broadcaster NOS will carry the World Championships and in Switzerland a deal has been finalised with Swiss public broadcaster SRG for the next two editions of the event. The 2013 World Championships will take place in the Russian capital of Moscow.

Further rights deals have been signed in Eastern Europe’s Serbia and Albania, with RTS and RTHS penning deals, respectively. Under the terms of the agreement, RTS will air Daegu 2011 and Moscow 2013, while in Albania the agreement covers all remaining IAAF World Athletics Series events from 2011-13 including the next two editions of the World Championships.
