Hyundai Renews Olympique Lyonnais Sponsorship

September 15, 2014

South Korea’s largest car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Co have renewed their sponsorship deal with Ligue 1 team, Olympique Lyonnais up until 2015-2016.

The company said the extension will allow it to place its logo on the uniform of athletes and the team’s traveling bus as well as advertise at stadiums where the team competes.

Hyundai will also be able to display its vehicles at the team’s home stadium of Stade de Gerland in Lyon, east central France.

The Ligue 1 team founded in 1950 has made the coveted UEFA Champions League 12 times since 2000 and has a loyal fan base of some 19.8 million.

“Sponsoring the team will raise brand awareness in France as well as in other parts of Europe where football is the most popular sport,” the carmaker said.

Hyundai has been an official partner of UEFA since the Euro 2000 tournament, and currently has a major sponsorship contract with the world governing football body FIFA that will run through the 2022 World Cup.
