Houston Dynamo End Front of Shirt Search with BHP Billiton Deal

July 4, 2014

Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Houston Dynamo have secured a jersey sponsorship deal with BHP Billiton until 2017.

The deal, which has the option of a two-year extension, marks the first time the Dynamo have had a logo on their jersey in one-and-a-half-years.

The oil firm has close connections to the local area, with almost 2,000 workers employed at the Houston-based BHP Billiton Petroleum unit.

Also in the agreement is for the company’s logo to feature on the back of the Houston Dash, the city’s professional women’s soccer team (NWSL).

Dynamo executive vice-president Steven Powell was excited by the partnership and said: “It almost felt kismet.

“As we were talking, it’s almost as if when you’ve met your future husband, future wife, future partner, and you’re sitting there talking and you go, ‘Wow, there’s a connection here.'”

Tim Cutt, BHP Billiton President of petroleum and potash said it was important that the firm made a “contribution to the community that many of us call home.”

The front of jersey at the Dynamo had been vacant since the club ended their three-year contract with Greenstar Recycling on February 1, 2013.
