Hankook Tyre Sponsor NRL in 3-Year Agreement

June 7, 2011

South Korean tyre manufacturer Hankook has become the official tyre of the National Rugby League (NRL) in a three-year agreement.

The company will utilise the sponsorship deal, believed to be worth US$300,000 over three seasons, to promote their ‘Pump It Up!’ tyre safety initiative. In addition, Hankook’s branding will appear at all NRL games played at the ANZ Stadium this season, including game two of the State of Origin and finals series.

NRL sponsorship manager Mario French said: “There’s a lot of talk about the need for greater road safety, but to be honest, I don’t really think about my tyres. And I suppose that’s the problem – almost nobody does. We want our fans to get the game safely and return home safely; and if regularly checking tyre pressures can contribute to that then the NRL is happy to support it.”

Jose Angeles, marketing manager for Hankook, added: “The NRL does big numbers and most of their fans love cars too, so we are very pleased to become the sport’s official tyre.”
