As the national governing body for athletics, UK Athletics (UKA) oversees the development and management of the nation’s favourite Olympic and Paralympic sport, from grassroots through to podium. UKA has a clear vision for the sport – to drive up performance and raise standards in every event, every region and every age group. UKA is currently seeking a new Chair to lead the development of the next phase of the strategy for athletics in the UK and lead the organisation from January 2018.

Overview:

– Lead and manage UKA’s Board in the development of the organisation’s vision and strategy, in collaboration with the President, UK Members Council and Board.

– Act as an unbiased, objective and impartial member of the Board, ensuring that all decisions taken are in the best long term interests of UKA, its stakeholders and employees.

– Engage in effective relationships with key international and national stakeholders (IAAF, IPC, European Athletics, Home Country Athletics Federations, UK Sport, Sport England and sponsors)

– Ensure the organisation is run in a transparent and equitable manner, in accordance with its values.

Essential Skills

– Experience in successfully setting and implementing strategy for an organisation of a similar scale and complexity.

– Knowledge and an understanding of sport (athletics desirable), especially governance structures and the opportunities and challenges that affords.

– Knowledge, awareness and experience of UK and International sporting structures, politics and dynamics.

– Excellent interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills with the ability to lead the Board and committees and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

– Commitment to and sympathy with UKA’s identity, purpose and values.
