Heineken, the UK’s leading brewer and cider maker, has been appointed as the official supplier of beer and cider to The Hydro, Scotland’s new home of live entertainment and sporting events opening September 2013 at the Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre (SECC) complex in Glasgow.

The exclusive five-year agreement will see Heineken provide the Hydro and SECC with a range of draught and packaged lager, ale and cider including Heineken, Foster’s, Amstel, John Smith’s Extra Smooth, Strongbow and Bulmers.  The contract was awarded by Scottish Exhibition Centre Ltd which operates the SECC complex.

The Hydro is set to be home to the Netball and Gymnastics events during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

John Gemmell, Trading Director-North for Heineken said:” We are proud to partner the SECC in this landmark development for Scotland. The partnership will allow us to showcase best- in- class brand activation and the superb opportunity it offers for customer hospitality will significantly enhance our engagement with the trade. With more than 2 million visitors expected per year, the SECC and new Hydro complex will provide outstanding prestige and exposure for our business and our brands.”

Peter Duthie, Commercial Director of the SECC, said: “We are delighted to be working with Heineken at such an exciting time for the SECC with the opening of our new 12,000 seat purpose built entertainment arena less than a year away.  This partnership with such a prestigious international company reflects the positioning of The Hydro as a venue of global significance.  Our customers expect to have plenty of choice when it comes to purchasing tickets for events just as they do when looking at the food & beverage options available.  We are confident that Heineken and its highly respected brands will more than satisfy this demand.”
