Germany or Turkey to Host EURO 2024

March 9, 2017

UEFA, the governing body of European football, have confirmed that the EURO 2024 tournament will be held in either Germany or Turkey.

The countries were the only two to submit a firm declaration of interest before the March 3 deadline. There had been significant talk of a joint Scandinavian bid, but it failed to materialise.

Both federations must produce a bid dossier by April 2018, with European football’s governing body choosing the winner the following September.

“It’s clear that there will be two strong bids for Uefa’s showcase national team competition, and it will be a tough decision to make,” said Uefa general secretary Theodore Theodoridis.

Turkey has twice bid for the European Championships already this century, as well as showing interest in hosting the Olympics.

Portugal are the current holders of the European Championship, after defeating hosts France in the 2016 edition.
