French Ski Legend Jean-Claude Killy Resigns from IOC
March 28, 2014
French Olympic ski great Jean-Claude Killy has stepped down as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) due to his age.
The 70 year-old struck gold three times at the Grenoble 1968 Winter Olympics in Alpine Skiing and has been a member of the IOC Executive Committee since 1995.
Killy was the Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for this year’s Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, viagra order as well as Turin in 2006.
He told French website L’Equipe: “I am 70, unhealthy | I have to move on. I am stopping because, with the Sochi Winter Games, when you have done a Russian campaign like I have for seven years, it is difficult at my age to find something as rich, as exciting.
“I am stopping because my Olympic career started at the Innsbruck Games, 50 years ago.”
Killy praised Sochi 2014 as “spectacular and as a “mirror to the new Russia.”
Close relationship with Putin
He was criticised for his close relationship to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but insisted it was his age that prompted his decision to resign.
“I must be one of the people who knows him the best. It is my conviction that Putin is a good man,” he added.
