French President Unmoved by Footballers Strike Over Super Tax

October 28, 2013

French President Francois Hollande has said he will remain with the proposed 75% “super tax” that will affect the nation’s top footballers, generic despite the players going on strike next month.

Clubs in Lique 1 and 2 have said they will strike between November 29 and December 2 because of the tax, look which affects those who earn an income above €1m per year.

The law will hit the clubs hardest, recipe rather than the players, as the tax looks for employers to bear the burden.

Hollande has said he is prepared to meet with clubs to discuss the tax but added: “It will be the same for all companies, whatever they may be.

“Each must know the rule, and the rule is the same for all.”

Jean-Pierre Louvel, President of the Union of Professional Football Clubs had previously said the tax would be “the death of French football.”
