FOX Sports Gets Exclusive Broadcast Rights to US Open in Australia

August 21, 2013

With the US Open tennis championships set to begin next monday, FOX Sports has secured a new broadcast agreement with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) which will see it broadcast the next four Flushing Meadows events exclusively in Australia.
The landmark agreement gives FOX Sports exclusive Australian television rights for a Grand Slam tennis event for the first time, which was enabled by the delisting of the US Open from the Federal Government’s sports anti-siphoning scheme.

FOX Sports has provided complete LIVE coverage of the US Open since 1998 but has shared the Australian TV rights with a free-to-air broadcaster on each occasion.

As part of the deal, FOX Sports will introduce a nightly prime time review show Tennis Today to complement it’s coverage of each day of the 2013 US Open.

“We are pleased to continue our long association with Fox Sports Australia for another four years,” said Gordon Smith, USTA Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. “They have been a valued partner in an important territory for tennis.”
The US Open will begin on Monday 26th August.
