Fox Sports Agrees Oklahoma State Broadcasting Deal
November 21, 2012
Oklahoma State joined the ranks of Big 12 schools who have entered into a broadcast partnership with Fox Sports.
It was announced Tuesday that Fox Sports and Learfield Sports, the exclusive media rights holder for OSU athletics, have reached a multi-year agreement.
“We are excited to take this next step in our relationship with Fox Sports and Learfield Sports,” OSU athletic director Mike Holder said in a press release. “The added exposure generated by this agreement will alert an even bigger audience to all of the good things that are happening at Oklahoma State.”
The deal is similar to previously announced Fox Sports partnerships with Kansas State, Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech. Fox Sports also reached an agreement with Oklahoma, but that deal is a little more extensive, according to a Fox Sports spokesperson.
The Tulsa World first wrote about the OSU deal in mid-September, when university and Fox Sports officials indicated that discussions were ongoing.
The agreement provides for one football game to be televised annually on a Fox Sports platform, which could include Fox Sports Oklahoma, Fox Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Southwest Plus and nationally on Fox College Sports (FCS).
Fox Sports platforms also will distribute all men’s basketball games not chosen by other broadcast providers, up to 20 Olympic sports and additional non-game programming selected by Fox Sports and OSU. Non-game programming may include OSU’s 30-minute sports magazine shows.
“Our deal with Fox Sports enables more than 9 million viewers in a four-state region and beyond to enjoy live Oklahoma State athletics programming,” Learfield Sports chief content officer Joe Ferreira said.
The agreement will allow OSU to retain streaming rights for any event not selected for distribution by Fox Sports or any Fox Sports-designated platform.
“We’re excited to partner with Oklahoma State,” Fox Sports Southwest senior vice president and general manager Jon Heidtke said. “This exclusive agreement helps reinforce Fox Sports Oklahoma as the preeminent sports television network in the state.”
