Outgoing AFL Chief Executive Demetriou Earned 3.8m Australian Dollars in 2013

The CEO of the Australian Football League (AFL) earned a reported AU$3.8m (US$3.1m) in 2013, allergy thanks to performance bonuses.
Andrew Demetriou, cheap 52, who announced he will step down at the end of the year, had a salary package that started at a base of AU$1.47 (US$1.32m) to AU$1.8m (US$1.61m), plus a long-term incentive bonus of AU$2m (US$1.8m) which took his salary to the total of AU$3.8m (US$3.41m).
The bonus included achievements such as securing an AU$1.25bn (US$1.12bn) broadcast rights deal, expanding the league with two new teams and the collective bargaining agreement.
The figure is AU$1.6m (US$1.43m) more than Demetriou’s previous highest packet which was back in 2010.
AFL chairman Mike Fitzpatrick said: “Our CEO achieved a healthy and well-deserved bonus for his role in securing a lucrative broadcast rights deal in 2011 that has benefited Australian Football enormously
“The professional sports industry is becoming increasingly competitive and complex and the AFL Commission is determined to attract and retain the very best available skills and experience.”
