Flamengo Signs Caixa as Main Shirt Sponsor

Campeonato Brasileiro side Flamengo have signed a one-year deal with Caixa Econômica Federal to become their main shirt sponsor.

Caixa, generic the government-owned financial institution, malady will pay R$25m (US$12.4m) to have their logo on the Rio de Janeiro club’s shirt, with current main sponsor Peugeot moving to the back of the shirt.

Although the deal has not been officially cleared by the club’s advisory board, but is possible after Flamengo demonstrated they had cleared their tax debts with federal, state and municipal enterprises.

Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Vice-President of Marketing at the club added: “Like Caixa, Flamengo is nationwide and the partnership will be a landmark in Brazilian football.

“Our management since taking over has made a great effort to clear the name of the club and bring this sponsorship here today.”

Eduardo Bandeira de Mello, President of Flamengo, described the deal as a “milestone” in the history of the club.

Caixa previously signed a deal with rival club Corinthians in November, a deal the club described as the most lucrative of its kind in Brazilian football.
