FIG Report Unacceptable Venue Conditions at the World Games

July 29, 2013

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has told member federations participating in The World Games 2013 Cali about unacceptable conditions of a number of the venues and facilities.

In particular, bronchi trampoline, anabolics tumbling, sale acrobatic and aerobic gymnastics are facing a considerable threat and may not take place.

Rhythmic gymnastics competitions had already been cancelled last week because of strong air draughts from the air conditioning system.

The Cali Local Organising Committee (CLOC) has been informed that no training will take place in certain disciplines if gymnasts are at risk and the temperature in the venues cannot exceed 24 degrees.

A statement from FIG Secretary General Andre Gueisbuhler read: “With the information we have at this point in time and the experience of the past days, we find it very hard to believe that CLOC will be able to stabilise the temperature in the provisional tents and the competition venue.

“For reasons unknown to the FIG, CLOC still believes that it will be able to meet all requirements in due time.”
