FIFA Launches Official Facebook Pages

August 13, 2013

FIFA has launched three new Facebook pages to expand the social media presence of football’s governing body.

The three new pages are:

– 2014 FIFA World Cup – focusing on the build up to, and the action during, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil

– FIFA World Cup – documenting the history of the sport’s most prestigious competition, utilising FIFA’s extensive multimedia archive

– FIFA – promoting FIFA’s work around the world, from football development projects to behind-the-scenes access

FIFA Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Walter De Gregorio, said: “Since FIFA took its first social media steps on Twitter in the build-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, more than 4.5 million football fans have been actively engaging with us in six different languages, primarily @fifacom and @fifaworldcup. As a governing body, this is something we’re very proud of.

“We’re really excited to launch these three new pages today. With the FIFA on YouTube channel too, FIFA is increasing its presence across different social platforms for football fans, and over the coming months we will announce further plans, including the launch of our first FIFA app at the Final Draw for the World Cup in December.”

The first Facebook page dedicated to a specific tournament was launched in June for the FIFA Conferations Cup. 30 million users accessed FIFA.com during the month.

Pages for the FIFA U17 World Cup and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup are also live. Facebook pages for the FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA’s three women’s competitions in 2014 and 2015 will be launched in future.
