FIFA Extends Sanctions Against El Salvador Players Worldwide

October 15, 2013

FIFA has confirmed the worldwide extensions of sanctions imposed on several El Salvador players. The sanctions were related to a match-manipulation investigation by the El Salvador Football Association.

The world football governing body has extended the sanctions imposed on 14 players who received a lifetime ban from all football-related activity, and on a further two players who received a six and 18 month ban respectively.

The El Salvador FA’s Disciplinary Committee imposed the sanctions on 19 September after investigating incidents of match-manipulation in internation fixtures, including El Salvador national team friendlies and CONCACAF Gold Cup matches in 2010, as well as matches involving the El Salvador under-20 national team.
