The list of suspended officials from football continued to grow this week as it was announced by FIFA’s ethics committee that Thai FA president Worawi Makudi has been banned for 90 days.

The former executive committee member joins Sepp Blatter, Jerome Valcke and Michel Platini on the suspension list.

Makudi (pictured) spent 18 years as an Asian delegate to the executive committee of the world federation until being voted off earlier this year.

A statement from the ethics committee did not specify the reason for an investigation, but did say that the decision was taken due to an apparent “breach of the Code of Ethics”.

It’s believed that the allegations refer to Makudi’s role in the controversial award of the hosting rights to the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in December 2010.

Makudi was involved in the vote, and was later accused by former England 2018 bid chairman Lord David Triesman of having demanded television rights to a friendly between England and Thailand in return for his vote.

FIFA’s ethics committee said on Monday: “The adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, has suspended Worawi Makudi, the President of The Football Association of Thailand and a former member of the FIFA Executive Committee, from all football activities at national and international level for 90 days. The ban is effective immediately.

“The decision was taken pursuant to the FIFA Code of Ethics art. 83 par. 1, on the grounds that a breach of the Code of Ethics appears to have been committed and a decision on the main issue may not be taken early enough.

“This decision against Worawi Makudi followed a request from the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély. The case is now the subject of formal investigation proceedings.”
