January 5, 2016

The FIFA Ethics Committee has recommended a nine-year ban and a fine of $100,000 for secretary general Jerome Valcke after concluding its investigation into his involvement in a World Cup ticketing scandal.

The chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, Dr Cornel Borbély has also requested an extension of the Frenchman’s 45-day suspension, which is due to expire at midnight today (5 January).

Valcke was initially suspended and put under investigation after he was alleged to have been involved in the re-selling of World Cup tickets for above face value and to benefit from the profits.

He was relieved him from his duties by world football’s governing body with immediate effect as the case was handed over to the Ethics Committee.

A statement released by the FIFA Ethics Committee said: “In his final report, the chairman of the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee recommended imposing a sanction of a nine-year ban and a fine of CHF 100,000 on Mr Valcke for alleged violation of the general rules of conduct, loyalty, confidentiality, duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting, conflicts of interest, offering and accepting gifts and other benefits and general obligation to collaborate.

“At the same time, Dr Borbély requested an extension of the suspension of Mr Valcke from all football-related activities for a further 45 days.”
