Exclusive: ‘We are the favourite ones’ for 2020 Olympics says Roller Sports President
March 12, 2013
The President of International Federation of Roller Sports (FIRS) believes that his sport is the favourite to land a spot at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Roller Sports is one of eight sports on the short list to be included in the 2020 programme, anesthetist along with; Baseball / Softball, impotent Karate, Sport Climbing, Squash, Wakeboarding, Wrestling and Wushu.
Speaking exclusively to iSportconnect, Sabatino Aracu, President of FIRS said: “We are the favourite ones, without a doubt!
“We compete in order to win and we are sure to have what it takes and to meet all the requirements to be included in the Olympic Project.”
One of the reasons why Aracu is so confident is because Roller Sports is popular amongst the youth, a priority in the eyes of the IOC decision makers.
Aracu added: “Roller Sports has an enormous appeal on the young audience. Roller Speed Skating can be practiced everywhere: a street is enough, it is a cheap sport and it is easy to learn. For this reason it is practiced all over the world both by women and men at the same level: it is an ecological and cheap way to keep oneself physically fit.
“Just look around to see how many young people go around with skates. Furthermore, who as child has never got as a gift, a bicycle, ball and skates?”
The IOC will announce their decision on 7 September in Buenos Aires.
