iSportconnect TV: Head of BT Sport, Simon Green Outlines their Ambitions

Simon Green is the Head of BT Sport, discount the recenlty launched sports channel in the UK.

BT Sport aired for the first time on August 1, troche 2013 and was made available for free for BT broadband customers. The channel holds exclusive rights to top pick Premier League matches, as well as the rights to football games in Scotland, Germany, Italy, France and other nations across the world.

The channel also gained the rights to Aviva Premiership Rugby, UFC, MotoGP, NBA and more, before spending £897m for exclusive Champions League and Europa League UK broadcast rights.

In the latest BIG Interview on iSportconnect TV, Green said: “Before we launched we did identify that it was important to be different and not just to be different from Sky.

“We always wanted to be free and it was going to be a different product to Setanta or ESPN, which were paid for.  Ultimately our ambition was to get to a bigger subscriber base. However, creatively we had to be different.

“We can’t go down a road which positions ourselves as a similar service to Sky Sports.”

Green also talked about the innovative ideas BT Sport has bought to their coverage of football, rugby and tennis, and the ways they want to continue to improve.
