Everton Unveil New Logo, Fans Across World Protest
May 28, 2013
Everton Football Club have unveiled their new club crest, which they say is ‘more modern, cleaner and dynamic,’ than the previous one.
However, fans across the world have protested against the new design, calling it ‘embarrassing’ and ‘horrible.’
The new crest retains the tower, the shield, the Everton name and the year of formation, but the motto ‘Ni Satis Nisi Optimum’ (nothing but the best is good enough) and the wreaths have been removed.
Albert Bosch from Barcelona Toffees, the Catalan Everton supporters branch told iSportconnect: “I don’t like it.
“I understand that the old one was difficult to mantain, but all the elements the old one had were a symbol of our history, so they had to be included in the new one and they unfortunately haven’t.
“Our motto and wreaths have disappeared.
“It’s a horrible decision.”
Bosch is one of 14,000 people to sign a petition voicing their concern at the new logo and he said that ‘no fans were really asked if they wanted to make that change,’ something that goes against what the club said in their press release.
In regards to the removal of the motto, Commercial Director, Dave Biggar, explained: “Whilst it no longer appears on the Crest, it remains tangibly and spiritually at the heart of our Club.
“It will still be highly visible inside the stadium and will still be part of our each and every day processes.”
