Euro 2012 & 2016 French Media Right Holders Revealed

April 10, 2012

French media rights for the 2012 and 2016 European Football Championships have been sold by UEFA, according to reports.

The new agreements see French TV channels TF1 and M6 sharing the free-to-air coverage of 19 live matches for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine and 22 live games for the following edition of the soccer tournament which in 2016 will be held in France.

Included in TF1 and M6’s rights are the opening fixtures to both tournaments, all games involving the French national team, all knockout stage matches and both finals.

Meanwhile in a separate deal, Al Jazeera-owned television channel Bein Sport has acquired rights to broadcast both Euro 2012 and Euro 2016 in their entirety across a number of media platforms, in addition to magazine and highlights programmes covering both tournaments.

Financial terms of the three agreements are not yet known.

“We are delighted to extend our agreements with leading commercial broadcasters TF1 and M6 and to further consolidate our partnership with Bein Sport in France for Uefa Euro 2012 and Uefa Euro 2016,” said Uefa Events marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein. “TF1 and M6 have experience in broadcasting national team football and Uefa European Football Championships, while Bein Sport will offer wide and qualitative coverage of both tournaments.

These agreements will provide French football fans with a fantastic multi-platform broadcast of this summer’s competition in Poland and Ukraine, and in 2016 in their own country,” Guy-Laurent Epstein added.
