ESPN to Air British Lionhearts’ Home Bouts

November 21, 2012

World Series of Boxing’s British Lionhearts will now be showcased on ESPN after the pay-to-play subscriber secured the rights to air the franchise’s fights.

British Lionhearts’ fights on home-soil will be shown live as part of the deal.

The tournament brings together some of the top boxers in the world as they represent their country in a World Cup style tournament.

The Lionhearts team includes Olympic medallists, middleweight Fred Evans and lightweight John Joe Nevin, as well as flyweight world No. 1, Andrew Selby, who are all set to compete against Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder, the current title holders, in a group stage match at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport on Friday.

The competition’s format will see Britain take on each of their Group B rivals home and away in five weight categories from bantam to heavyweight.

Three points are on the line for the most wins out of each match-up’s five bouts as teams compete to make the quarter finals and to go on for the chance to be crowned World Champions.

The Lionhearts are also set to face USA Knockouts, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, German Eagles and Ukraine Otamans over the coming months.
