All-English Champions League Final Still Fares Well On European TV

The Champions League final topped the broadcast ratings in some European markets on Saturday and pulled the biggest pay-TV audiences elsewhere.

Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur was number one of the day on Saturday in Italy, where RAI 1 attracted 5.659 million viewers and a share of 27.2%. The match also had 1.461 million viewers on Sky Italia with a share of 7%.

In The Netherlands, the game was also number one. Veronica had 1.714 million viewers and a share of 38.8%. Earlier in the evening, Veronica had 697,000 and a 26.7% share for a football friendly between the Dutch women’s team and Australia.

In Spain, pay platform Movistar had 1.268 million and a 10.1% share.

In Germany, the match on Sky Deutschland had 1.67 million viewers on Sky Sport and 230,000 on Sky 1.

Last year, when free-TV still had the rights, Real Madrid versus Liverpool pulled around 10 million on ZDF.
