EFL Drugs Testing Controversy Revealed
February 13, 2017
At least 39% of participants in the English Football League (EFL) were not drugs tested by UK Anti-Doping during the 2015-16 season.
UKAD, which carries out drugs testing on behalf of the Football Association (FA) took 1,204 samples from 1,989 players to appear in the Football League. However, the figures do not account for players being tested more than once.
Only 36 samples were taken from the 169 players to play in the Women’s Super League.
UKAD revealed that Brentford midfielder Alan Judge was the only player in England and Wales to breach doping regulations last season, with the Republic of Ireland international reprimanded for his offence.
The statistics have been made available under the Freedom of Information Act.
