Ecclestone Hints at F1 Return for Turkish GP

December 4, 2012

The Turkish GP may return to Formula One calendar in the near future after F1 supremo suggested that it was one of the topics of conversation at World Motorsport Council.

With the planned race on the streets of New Jersey postponed until 2014, order the 2013 calendar was published with just 19 races.

The F1 supremo previously stated that he would try to find a replacement race in France, but funding was not forthcoming for a GP at Magny-Cours or Paul Ricard.

Istanbul Park, which hosted races between 2005 and 2011, proved popular with the drivers – with the four-apex turn 8 becoming an instant legend – but poor attendances and financial disagreements led to the race being dropped.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the 82-year-old said: “I am going to Istanbul to see if we can get the Turkish GP back before participating at the World Council.”
