EA Sports Secure Sponsorship with German Champions Borussia Dortmund

July 28, 2011

EA Sports have agreed a deal to sponsor German soccer champions Borussia Dortmund (BVB) for the 2011/12 season.

The deal will provide the US videogame publisher with an advertising presence at the Signal Iduna Park – acting as presenting sponsor on video screens bringing results from elsewhere in the Bundesliga – and will also run the EA Sports Fanbank competition at every Borussia Dortmund home league game.

The scheme will see two lucky fans at each game given the chance to sit pitchside during the game at seats fitted with consoles playing flagship title Fifa 12.

The deal is valued by Sponsors.de at around US$285,000, which was brokered by the Sportfive agency.

Dirk Schülgen, marketing director at EA Sports’ parent company Electronic Arts, said: “With this partnership we will strengthen the connection between virtual and real football. We also have in BVB an attractive partner for joint activities around the football that will excite the fans.”

Borussia Dortmund board chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke added: “EA Sports is the brand of virtual football, and we are happy to count a young, dynamic company like Electronic Arts among our partners.”
