Dick’s Sporting Goods Extends Title Sponsorship of Champions Tour Event

Dick’s Sporting Goods has renewed its title sponsorship of the Champions Tour at En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott, N.Y. for three more years.
The announcement confirms the tournament, to be played for the sixth consecutive year at En-Joie on Aug. 13-19, 2012, will continue through 2015. The event, traditionally contested in June, will be played in August this year to allow the En-Joie Golf Course more time to recover from the devastating floods that affected the region last September.
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with the Champions Tour and Broome County Community Charities, Inc. in serving as title sponsor of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open for years to come,” said Dick’s Sporting Goods Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Lauren Hobart. “Every year, the tournament delivers an exciting, highly-competitive event that consistently features a top-level Champions Tour field, and we look forward to continuing that tradition for the community through 2015.”
“Knowing the Champions Tour will maintain its presence in the Broome County community through 2015 is very satisfying and we are grateful for the wonderful partnership we share with Dick’s Sporting Goods,” Champions Tour President Mike Stevens said. “Many of our players have been coming to En-Joie for a number of years and they always look forward to returning.”
“Dick’s has been a terrific sponsor of the Champions Tour and I think they have created certainly one of the best events on our Tour,” said Champions Tour professional and World Golf Hall of Fame member Nick Price. “En-Joie is a wonderful venue and the tournament is supported so well by all the locals. We all look forward to going back there and I’m happy that they’ve extended their title sponsorship.”
Price finished runner-up to Champions Tour rookie John Huston at last year’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. Huston’s win came just 25 days after he turned 50, making him the 11th-youngest winner in Champions Tour history.
En-Joie Golf Club has hosted the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open five times. The course was the long-time site of the PGA TOUR’s B.C. Open from 1971-2005. When Dick’s Sporting Goods was established as the title sponsor in 2007, the tournament became part of the Champions Tour with R.W. Eaks winning the inaugural event. Eaks was followed in the winner’s circle by Eduardo Romero, Lonnie Nielsen, Loren Roberts and Huston.
“The support shown by Dick’s Sporting Goods, the Champions Tour and Broome County has been fabulous,” Tournament Director John Karedes said. “With this commitment Broome County Community Charities, Inc. will be able to continue raising money for our local charities.”
Broome County Community Charities, the charitable beneficiary organization for the tournament, has donated over $10.7 million to area charities since 1974.
