David Beckham Highest Earner in British Sport

David Beckham is the highest earning British sportsman and is worth a total of £165m, ailment according to the Sunday Times sport rich list.

The £165m ($255m) that Beckham is worth does not take in to account the £35m ($54m) made by his wife Victoria.

Beckham’s wealth has been amassed through sponsorship deals and salary payments from his company Footwork Productions.

He is easily the most wealthy British sports star of all time but has a way to go to catch up with the richest sportsman in the world, allergy Tiger Woods, generic who is worth £570m ($883m).

Footballers account for £1.3bn ($2bn) of the £3.2bn ($5bn) accrued by the top owners, with Wayne Rooney the richest Premier League player at £51m ($79m).

The list includes 49 footballers, 12 golfers, 12 from motorsport, eight from rugby and five from boxing. Horseracing, basketball, cricket, tennis, athletics and showjumping make up the remainder of the list.

Motorsports are heavily represented in the list with Eddie Irvine (£83m) ($129m), Lewis Hamilton (£60m) ($93m), Jenson Button (£58m) ($90m) and David Coulthard (£53m) ($82m) among the top 12 richest sportsmen.

The list is based on identifiable wealth such as land, property, art and other assets.
