CONCACAF Chief Rules Out FIFA Presidency

October 23, 2013

The President of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), Jeffrey Webb has rejected talk of him replacing Sepp Blatter at the top of FIFA.

Reports suggested that Webb was being prepared to replace Blatter in 2015, however the 49 year old told reporters he had no intention of becoming the next FIFA President.

“No, definitely not,” he said. “That is not my intention or my objectives at this time. My focus is currently on CONCACAF.”

Speculation emerged after Blatter was wrongly introduced as “FIFA’s vice-president”, a role held by Webb, at a development summit in the Caribbean.

Blatter said: “I think you’re a prophet. (There may be) a new FIFA president in the near future and this president could be Jeffrey Webb.”

CONCACAF officials rejected the statement as “very light hearted.”
