Claressa Shields to Headline TV Boxing Event

February 8, 2017

Double Olympic champion Claressa Shields will compete in the first female boxing match to headline a premium television event.

Shields, who won middleweight gold medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016 prior to turning professional, will fight Hungarian Szilvia Szabados at Detroit’s MGM Grand on March 10.

Shields won her professional debut fight in November, having lost just one of her 78 amateur bouts. She will compete for the North American Boxing Federation title live on the Showtime network, a premium network that requires normal subscribers to pay an additional fee.

Other prominent female Olympic champions such as Great Britain’s Nicola Adams and Ireland’s Katie Taylor have recently joined the professional ranks.
