C.K. Wu to Run for IOC Presidency
May 20, 2013
International Boxing Federation (AIBA) President C.K. Wu is to run for the International Olympic Committee presidency.
Wu, who has been an IOC member for 25 years and joined the IOC Executive Board last year, took over the AIBA in 2006. It was a difficult time for the federation – they had a ban on IOC funding after controversy at the 2004 Olympic Games. The 66-year-old has managed to restore credibility and oversaw the introduction of the first women’s boxing events at the London 2012 Games.
The current president, Jacques Rogge, will depart the position in September, when his two-term presidency comes to a mandatory end. The election will be held at the IOC session in Buenos Aires on 10 September.
Wu joins Ser Miang Ng and Thomas Bach, who have already announed their plans to run for the role.
