June 18, 2013
Major League Baseball Properties (MLBP) have announced Chevrolet, a division of General Motors Corporation, will be the title sponsor of the 2013 Chevrolet Home Run Derby.
The 2013 Chevrolet Home Run Derby will be held Monday, July 15 at Citi Field in New York, home of the New York Mets, and televised live on ESPN beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET.
The Chevrolet Home Run Derby competition will continue to follow the format first introduced in 2011, featuring team competition between the American League and National League. Captains for each squad will be named and then each will determine the other participants on their teams and personally extend the invitations. Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers won the 2012 event in Kansas City.
“Chevrolet has been a tremendous partner for Major League Baseball and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Home Run Derby, one of the crown jewel sporting events of the summer,” said Tim Brosnan, Executive Vice President, Business, Major League Baseball. “We are also grateful to Chevrolet for helping us continue the tradition of using the Home Run Derby to raise money and awareness for Boys & Girls Clubs of America, one of Baseball’s largest charitable partners.”
“From backyards to the big leagues Chevrolet and baseball have a long history together. Chevrolet currently has the best product line up ever and the Home Run Derby provides a great platform to showcase these vehicles alongside some of the best players in Major League Baseball,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet vice president of marketing.
