Buffalo Sabres Expand Television Coverage into Canada

October 10, 2013

The Buffalo Sabres have agreed a deal with Bell TV that will see 50 of their games this season televised for their fans in southern Ontario.

The NHL team have been attempting to increase their exposure in the nearby Niagara region, where they have many fans, for many years. The majority of Sabres games have only been broadcast on U.S. cable networks in the past, which meant fans in Ontario had to purchase the NHL’s Center Ice package if they wanted to tune in.

Bell will not be charging any additional fees for broadcasting the games, which will begin with the home fixture against Columbus today.

Buffalo Sabres president Ted Black said: “We have been aware of the very large number of Sabres fans in Southern Ontario for quite some time and, until now, they have been able to see only a very small percentage of Sabres television broadcasts despite being geographically closer to us than Rochester.”

“They’ve been crossing the border to come to games at the arena for years and now they’ll be able to watch a majority of Sabres games from the comfort of their homes.”
